DUBLIN, Ireland - In a move that will further boost its transatlantic network, the Irish low-cost carrier, Aer Lingus has announced two new routes.
Calling it "the largest-ever transatlantic expansion in the airline's history," Aer Lingus CEO Stephen Kavanagh unveiled the airline's mission "to be the leading value carrier across the North Atlantic."
To further its transatlantic expansion plans, Aer Lingus has now announced two new routes that it said will be unveiled from summer 2019.
Currently, Aer Lingus offers around 2.8 million annual seats to North America and has said that the two routes will together add 250,000 seats to the airline's transatlantic network.
The Irish carrier has announced that it will fly direct from Dublin to Montreal from August 8, 2019 and Minneapolis–Saint Paul from July 8, 2019.
Aer Lingus said that the Montreal route will operate daily on a new Airbus A321 neo long-range aircraft.
It added that fares would be fixed from 239 euros each way and the route will help Aer Lingus compete with existing seasonal services by Air Canada and Air Transat.
Meanwhile, fares on the new daily route to Minneapolis–Saint Paul start from 249 euros and the service will be operated on a Boeing 757 aircraft.
The airline has consistently been boosting its transatlantic services since its acquisition by IAG in 2015.
Aer Lingus has taken delivery of several new long-haul aircraft and has launched eight new transatlantic services since then, including Seattle, Philadelphia and Miami in the past year alone.
So far, the airlines' total number of North American services stands at 15 - including its two new routes and other recent additions like LA, Newark and Hartford, Connecticut.
According to Aer Lingus, IAG plans to further boost the airline's fleet in the coming years.
Reports have revealed that 12 new Airbus A321 Neo long-range (LR) aircraft are due to arrive from 2019 to 2022.
On the A321LRs, Aer Lingus will have 168 economy and 16 business class seats, which will use the same seat products as its current long-haul fleet.
Montreal has become the first route to be announced with the new aircraft, which uses 20 percent less fuel and can fly over 900 km further than comparable predecessors.
