CriticsChoice: Jordan Peele, James Franco early winners at star-studded event

Los Angeles [U.S.A], January 12 (ANI): The Broadcast Film Critics Assn. and Broadcast Television Journalists Assn. are handing out prizes at the 23rd annual Critics` Choice Awards tonight, honouring the best in movies and television.

'Call me by your Name' (Best Adapted Screenplay) and 'Get Out' (Best Original Screenplay) are some of the early winners at the star studded event. Both the movies went on to claim the screenplay honours, while Jordan Peele's 'Get Out' beat Guillermo Del Toro's 'The Shape of Water' to win the Best Sci-fi/horror film.

Meanwhile, actor James Franco won the Best Actor in a Comedy for his role in 'The Disaster Artist', but skipped the Critics` Choice Awards ceremony because of the sexual misconduct allegations on the actor.

'Coco' also won a pair of awards, for Best Song and Animated Feature, while 'The Florida Project' star Brooklynn Prince won the best young actor/actress award.

For television, Walton Goggins and Mayim Bialik won the supporting actor and actress prizes for 'Vice Principals' and 'The Big Bang Theory,' respectively. HBO's 'The Wizard of Lies' won best movie made for TV. David Harbour won best supporting actor in a drama series for 'Stranger Things'.

Laura Dern and Alexander Skarsgard took home the 'Supporting Actor' honours for TV movie or miniseries. (ANI)
