Ryanair, Aer Lingus cancel several Irish flights

DUBLIN, Ireland - Following the strike by French air traffic controllers, Aer Lingus and Ryanair were forced to cancel a number of flights across their schedule.

Ryanair was reportedly the worst affected and had a total of 222 cancelled flights.

Customers were advised to check the airlines website for updates.

Ryanair said that it cancelled flights between Dublin and Nice, and between Dublin and other destinations in Spain.

Meanwhile, Aer Lingus cancelled flights between Dublin and Paris, Lyon and Nice.

Aer Lingus said in a statement that it was closely monitoring the situation as the strike may cause delays or cancellations.

It said that it may indirectly impact their Spanish and Portuguese schedule.

Customers of both the airlines were offered the option to change their dates of travel free of charge.

The strike of air traffic controllers was part of a wider public sector worker protest against French President Emmanuel Macron's plans to toughen pay conditions.
Ryanair said in a statement, "We regret to inform customers that, due to a strike by air traffic controllers in France on 10 October, we have been forced to cancel the flights listed below.”

It added, “Unfortunately, there is a possibility that there will be more delays and cancellations.”

The statement also noted, ”Ryanair deeply regrets any inconvenience caused by these unwarranted delays/cancellations caused by air traffic controllers."
