U.S. stocks finish week on high note, tech sector surges

NEW YORK, New York - U.S. stocks may have had a volatile week but on Friday all the major indices finished in the black. Led by a surge in the tech sector, equity markets shrugged off a hiugher-than-expected inflation reading.

"We are finishing a volatile week on a strong note," Mona Mahajan, senior investment strategist at Edward Jones told CNBC Friday. "It's nice to see some green on the screen. Clearly one of the drivers has been the stellar reports coming out of megacap technology."

S&P 500 (^GSPC): The S&P 500 index finished at 5,099.96, surging by 51.54 points or 1.02 percent.

Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI): The Dow Jones Industrial Average concluded at 38,239.66, advancing by 153.86 points or 0.40 percent.

NASDAQ Composite (^IXIC): The NASDAQ Composite index ended at 15,927.90, soaring by 316.14 points or 2.03 percent.
