DUBLIN, Ireland - Winning a spot on the list of the world’s top 40 airlines, Aer Lingus was ranked on the 36th position by an international air transport rating organization - Skytrax.

The company rated Irish airline Aer Lingus on the 36th position of top airlines in the world.

Aer Lingus is also said to have received an excellent four-star rating in the prestigious survey, which represents progress for the Irish airline which was seen to have jumped two places in the overall ranking.

However, the other top Irish airline, Ryanair, which was also featured in the rankings, was spotted on the 64th position.

According to Skytrax, Singapore Airlines overtook Qatar Airways as the world's best airline this year.

The remaining rankings in the top five were made up by ANA All Nippon Airways, Emirates and EVA Air comprise.

Skytrax explained that its survey, which is the world's largest, annual airline passenger satisfaction survey is focussed on customers who get to make their own, personal choices as to which airline they consider to be the best.

The brands chosen are rated accordingly in the Passenger's Choice Awards.

The surveyors noted that the main criteria examined include three topics - cabin service, ground/airport, and onboard product.
