Report: New rules for travelers taking flights from the U.K.

LONDON, U.K. - After the U.S., Australia and New Zealand, now the U.K. government is believed to be preparing a new list of items that it wants to ban in hand luggage on flights leaving the country.

A new report has revealed that the government is now preparing a list of everyday items that wouldn’t be allowed on all flights leaving the U.K. and that these items include everything from make-up, baby powder, coffee and spices.

Last month, similar bans were placed on items in some countries, including Australia, the U.S. and New Zealand.

However, the new rules could mean longer line at airport security and come amid worries that the U.K. passports, which are blue in color, will increase queues at border control. 

The new rules were adopted after Australian officials confirmed that they had foiled a plot to blow up an Etihad flight from Sydney to Abu Dhabi last year.

At the time, investigators claimed that the Islamic State sent the "sophisticated" device hidden in a meat mincer from Syria to a terror cell in Sydney.

Authorities managed to avert what would have been a major terror attack, after the suitcase was abandoned at check-in, since  it was too heavy.

A report in The Times has revealed that the new rules could bring powders under the same restrictions as liquids and that all powders would be restricted to 12 ounces or 56 grams and would have to go through further security checks.

After 9/11 similar weight rules on liquids had been introduced.

A spokesman for the U.K. Department of Transport was quoted as saying in the report, "It is for each country to determine its own security measures based on its own assessments. We work closely with all our international partners to keep aviation security under constant review."
