DUBLIN, Ireland - The Austrian low-cost carrier, Laudamotion, which is owned by former Formula 1 racing driver Niki Lauda has announced the introduction of a new direct Dublin to Vienna service.

The airline said that it will begin flying Dublin-Vienna with an Airbus A320 aircraft starting October.

Laudamotion, which focuses on EU city shuttle routes from Vienna was formed out of insolvent carrier Niki, which was formerly part of Air Berlin.

Earlier this year, in March, Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair bought a 24.9 percent stake in the Austrian leisure airline.

Ryanair said at the time that it aims to increase that stake to 75 percent "as soon as possible.”

Laudamotion has said that the new Dublin-Vienna flights will be priced from 19.99 euros each-way.

With the introduction of the new route, Laudamotion will compete directly with Aer Lingus, which already operates daily flights on the route.

Lauda said in a statement, “We are offering price-conscious customers exactly what they want with our city shuttle routes. I am certain that the interest will be high with our attractive fares on our new Dublin to Vienna service."

Meanwhile, Vincent Harrison, Managing Director of the Dublin Airport said, “Laudamotion will be our fifth new airline customer to Dublin Airport this year and we look forward to welcoming its new service.”
