DUBAI, U.A.E. - With its aggressive agenda of turning itself into a city of the future, Dubai has already planned to unveil sophisticated self-flying taxis in the skies and hi-tech facial recognition system inside aquariums at its airport.

Now, the Dubai Police department has unveiled its latest ride - its sci-fi transportation staple, hoverbikes.

The futuristic bikes are the latest addition in Dubai police’s fleet that already includes luxury patrol cars, self-driving pursuit drones and a robot officer.

The police department announced that it will soon have officers buzzing around on hoverbikes - which, reports noted look like an early version of the speeder bikes used by the scout troopers on Endor in Return of the Jedi.

The police unveiled its new Hoversurf Scorpion craft at the Gitex Technology Week conference.

These hoverbikes have been unveiled for emergency response scenarios, giving officers the ability to zoom over congested traffic conditions by taking to the air.

The fully electric Russian made craft can handle loads of up to 600 pounds, offering about 25 minutes of use per charge with a top speed of about 43 mph.

According to reports, the Scorpion can fly autonomously for almost four miles at a time for other emergencies.

Hoversurf CEO Alexander Atamanov said on Facebook that the company and the Dubai police have signed a memorandum of understanding that will allow Hoversurf to begin mass production of the Scorpion crafts in the Dubai area to serve the department.
