'O.J.' 'Weiner' among 15 docs to advance in Oscar race

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Tuesday, December 6 the names of 15 documentary features to advance in the race to the Oscars, Variety reveals.

Among those on the shortlist are "O.J.: Made in America," the ESPN documentary on O.J. Simpson directed by Ezra Edelman, and "Weiner," Josh Kriegman and Elyse Steinberg's look at Anthony Weiner following his high-profile sexting scandal.

Also advancing are Ava DuVernay's "13th," which centers on race in the criminal justice system in America; "The Ivory Game," a Leonardo DiCaprio-backed film taking on the poaching of elephants; and Raoul Peck's "I Am Not Your Negro," which garnered critical acclaim out of the festival circuit.
