The number of small businesses sold in the Chicago area in the third quarter of 2016 surged past the previous quarter's total.
There were 58 business-for-sale transactions that closed in the Chicagoland market between July 1 and Sept. 30, according to a recent report from internet marketplace BizBuySell.com.
That was up 53 percent from the previous quarter, when 38 small businesses were sold to new ownership.
