3 Civilians Die in Kashmir Shelling

Cross border firing between India and Pakistan in the contested region of Kashmir has killed at least three people, including two children.

Indian police sources said a young boy was killed and four civilians were injured in the border shelling and firing by Pakistani border guards early Monday.

Pakistan's military says Indian troops fired across the de facto border in the disputed area, killing two Pakistani civilians. Pakistan says one of the civilians was an 18-month-old child, and that seven people were wounded in the incident Sunday.

Tensions have been high in the area since September when a Pakistani attack killed 19 Indian soldiers in the disputed region.

India retaliated with 'surgical strikes' against militants on Pakistani soil.

Kashmir is divided between India and Pakistan and claimed in full by both. It has been the trigger for two of the archrivals' three wars.
