CALIFORNIA, U.S. - On October 23, 2001, the world was introduced to Apple’s Mp3 player, the iPod.

Amidst all the bulky portable CD players setting new trends, Apple introduced its sleek design that revolutionised the music industry.

The first iPod, being 2.4’ wide, 4’ tall, and 3/4’ thick had a capacity of 5GB and could hold 1,000 songs.

The announcement of iPod’s launch was not received well by many, until it was, when the world got to see the revolutionary technology that could play music minus the chunky hardware.

Soon after the launch, the iPod was met with immediate success, prompting companies to replicate the style of iPod, and Apple’s biggest rival then, Microsoft too followed suit.

In a span of ten years, iPod saw new legacies and designs of its own, including iPod Color, Video, Nano, Shuffle, and the post-iPhone rebrand, the iPod Touch.

With a change in consumer demand and market supply, Apple discontinued most of its iPods excluding the recent ones. If the discontinuance of older versions wasn’t enough, Apple has stopped the production of newer versions of iPod too.

iPod is having a morose fifteenth birthday, for its own creators have forgotten the device. There were absolutely no tweets from Apple's side. Apple official account, Apple Music or Apple Support did not tweet about the iPod or the celebratory run that the device has had.
