Adam Eaton is called out attempting to steal second base, but after the White Sox challenge the call, Eaton is ruled safe at second

Jose Quintana made his final start of the 2016 season and reached a couple of personal milestones. The southpaw tossed six innings and struck out seven, giving him 208 innings and 181 strikeouts. Both stand as career bests, as does his 3.20 ERA.

Kevin Kiermaier knocked out three hits for the Rays. Mikie Mahtook, Alexei Ramirez and Curt Casali had two apiece, with Mahtook homering in the fourth as well as doubling and scoring twice.

Mahtook coming on: Mahtook's solo home run in the fourth off Quintana put the Rays up 2-0. Since enduring an 0-for-34 skid in August, Mahtook has hit .298 with three home runs and five RBIs in his last 22 games. The second-year outfielder's race to the finish line brings to mind last September when he was the Rays' best offensive player for the last month of the season, hitting .356 with five home runs in his final 23 at-bats.

Ramirez's RBI single in the second put the Rays up 1-0. Prior to taking that lead, the Rays had not led in a game for 41 consecutive innings.

UNDER REVIEW

Eaton picked up his 14th stolen base of the season, moving him within one of the team lead, thanks to a first-inning manager's challenge by Robin Ventura. Eaton originally was ruled out on the steal attempt, though, before video replay overturned the call.

Rays: Matt Andriese (8-7, 4.34 ERA) enters his final start of the 2016 season on a roll after going 2-0 in his last three starts. He will be making his third career appearance at Globe Life Park in Arlington. He faced the Rangers once this season, on Aug. 19 at Tropicana Field when he took the loss after allowing five runs in 5 1/3 innings.

White Sox: Carlos Rodon (8-10, 4.08) is scheduled to make his 28th and final start of 2016 in Friday's series opener against the Twins, with a first pitch of 7:10 p.m. CT. It also will be Rodon's 15th start at home. Rodon is 6-2 with a 3.12 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 60 2/3 innings over his last 10 starts (eight quality).
