Film about immigrant wins festival in Brasilia

The feature film "A cidade onde envelheco" [The city where I get older, in a literal translation], directed by Marilia Rocha, was the big winner of the 49th Brasilia Festival of Brazilian Cinema. The film received four awards, dubbed 'Trofeu Candago', for best film, best director, best supporting actor for Wederson Neguinho, and best actress, which was shared between Elizabete Francisca and Francisca Manuel. The film tells the drama lived by Teresa, a Portuguese young woman who decides to leave her country to live in Brazil.

The documentary "Martirio" [Martyrdom in a literal translation] received the award for best film by the jury. The animated film "Quando os dias eram eternos" [When the days were Eternals, in a literal translation] won the award for best short film. As happened in the opening ceremony, the festival's awards ceremony was marked by protests against President Michel Temer's government mentioned in many winners' speeches. According to the event's organizers, about 30,000 people watched the films.

The competitive exhibition offered $105,000 in prize this year-the same amount of last year. The greatest prize is for feature film productions. The best film received $31,000.

In total, the festival received 132 inscriptions for feature films. The festival's committee that examined the films was formed by five experts in the seventh art. All finalists films are new in Brazil.
