The overview of major domestic and global threats facing the U.S. was conducted near her home, at a federal government facility outside New York.

Major presidential nominees and their close advisors are required under U.S. law to be briefed with classified information on security matters by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence so they are prepared when they assume office.

Clinton's main opponent, Republican nominee Donald Trump, received a similar security briefing earlier in the month that reportedly lasted more than two hours.

Clinton's briefing at an FBI office in White Plains that has secure meeting rooms also lasted more than two hours, reported the Associated Press.

Security briefings have been routinely given to leading presidential contenders by intelligence officials for some 60 years.
