Laguna Pueblo eyes out-of-state casino as path for growth
The theory goes that gambling is recession-proof. But as New Mexico struggles to reach pre-2008 economic levels, Laguna Development Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of the Pueblo of Laguna, said it had to look outside the state for opportunities for growth.
In what could be the first time for a Native American pueblo, Laguna announced earlier this week it had agreed to acquire an out-of-state casino, a Louisiana riverboat casino and hotel facility for $134 million.
