If your visiting family is intent on summiting the Washington Monument, you should probably tell them Old Rag Mountain in Shenandoah National Park would be an easier endeavor in the months ahead.
The monument will be closed until mid-September for elevator repairs, according to The Washington Post, and there are plans for a nine-month closure for more modernization.
