Montauk Holdings Ltd., better known as Montauk Energy, has appointed its longtime top lawyer to president and CEO.

Marty Ryan, vice president and general counsel, succeeds David Herrman at the helm of the renewable energy company. Herrman resigned his posts but will remain until June 10 to help with the transition. Ryan was also named an executive director.

It's not typical for an in-house lawyer to take the top post in general, and Montauk (JSE:MNK) is no exception.
